Telling Chinatown's Stories of Displacement
As part of Coast to Coast Chinatowns Against Displacement: Week of Action, Philadelphia Chinatown is telling the community's stories of struggle and resistance at the Rail Park.
Eddie Wong, whose Kung Fu Studio was recently priced out of Chinatown, is providing a demonstration Wing Chun class at the Rail Park. He will share his personal stories of facing displacement in Philadelphia's Chinatown.
Come explore Chinatown's past, present, and future through activities and educational resources. We will also have housing resources aimed at helping people live and stay in the community.
There will be activities for all ages as a part of the "Parks for Chinatown: Game Nights" program. Thursdays throughout the summer, we will activate alternately 10th Street Plaza and the Rail Park with games, art projects, and activities.
This program is a join initiative of Asian Arts Initiative, Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, and The Rail Park aimed at connecting those who live, work, and play in Chinatown to the neighborhood's public spaces. Keep an eye out for exciting workshops and performances happening Second Saturdays this summer!
If you are interested to learn more about the community's ongoing story of survival, join the Chinatown Walking Tour Against Displacement at 5 PM, starting at Chinatown Friendship Gate (Intersection of 10th and Arch Streets).
